As some of you will be aware, I was away for most of November taking care of an old friend.
I returned to New York just over a week ago and found this email from a previous client waiting for me:
Hello Raven.
I just want you to know that I followed all your instructions as best as i could and eventually {ex-boyfriend's name removed} came back to me at the end of July because apparently his new girlfriend dumped him. After that, he wanted to do everything with me again, paying for me to attend events, and asking me when I would come over again, taking me out to dinner, etc., everything i had hoped for.
I was a bit reluctant this time to do things with him since he previously hurt my feelings, but I did spend a few days with him and talked for the next 3 weeks. During this time I realized that he exhibits the traits of someone with an antisocial personality disorder (sociopath) who feels no remorse, guilt, or sympathy, among other feelings. I broke things off with him even though he was practically begging me to come over. He was selfish, couldn’t sympathize or understand human feelings, and could not have any serious conversation without turning everything into a joke. He also took no responsibility for anything and blamed everything but himself.
You said he was not a good person and has some dark pasts. Even though I dont know much about his past, i believe you are absolutely right. As you said, I deserve to be treated with love and respect and my only regret is that I wish I listened to you from the beginning when you were trying to persuade me to make the right choice (and not pick him).
Even though it did not turn out as I expected, please know that I am awed by your insight and magical prowess.
I have since found someone else, just as you predicted, and felt I had to let you know.

Emails like this one really gladden my heart. They make me proud of the challenging work I do, and give me hope, because even though my spells don't always play out the way my clients hope they will, the vast majority of the time my clients get something better.
This time of year is challenging for a lot of people. There’s a lot of pressure on us to be happy, and that pressure can push us into unhealthy patterns even when they don’t serve us. Like those people who try and achieve happiness by banging their head against a door that has been closed to them for a long, long time.
Sometimes magick doesn't open doors that are closed.
Sometimes magick simply reveals other doors that we haven't noticed before, and have been open the whole time.
